FAQs

Where are your services available?

We provide therapeutic speech and language services to clients living in the states of New York and Connecticut. Educational and elective services such as Orton-Gillingham dyslexia intervention, accent modification and voice habilitation are offered worldwide. All supports are provided via our secure teletherapy platform.

Is teletherapy an appropriate service delivery method for your children or individuals with significant impairments?

Speech and language telepractice is a permitted service delivery modality in Connecticut and New York State, when providers can ethically provide quality standards of care.  Research indicates that, for most clients, synchronous online services will be as effective as in-person services.  Children with anxiety or sensory issues may be more relaxed with synchronous online services and benefit from the therapeutic experience more. Some of the challenges clients experience when accessing teletherapy can be accommodated with the support of an e-Helper.

Parents and/or caregivers will need to support young children and impaired individuals at home.  This support may include:

  1. Using a phone, video conference or email to consult with a service provider.
  2. Sitting with a client in a video web-conference to help with sustaining attention, encourage positive behaviors and assist with the computer as needed.

How can caregivers and families support clients during a teletherapy session?

  1. Families and caregivers can ensure that clients have access to a stable internet connection by keeping modems routers and software updated. Have access to reliable wi-fi and use an ethernet cable to improve connectivity when needed.
  2. Families can create quiet, distraction-free workspaces for clients. Parents and/or caregivers can let other family members know that interruptions will need to wait until the session is completed.
  3. Families and/or caregivers can review video conferencing expectations with clients.  Expectations include:

  • Be punctual
  • Turn on the video and audio
  • Mute yourself in group sessions
  • Pick a quiet workspace and remain there throughout the session unless it becomes unsafe.

Will my health insurance cover teletherapy services?

All of our services are currently private pay.  Payment of invoices is expected prior to the delivery of services. Contact your insurance provider to understand your plan’s benefits.  In general, a prescription from a primary care provider is needed before third party reimbursement. When requested, we will provide you with a monthly invoice that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What records do you keep and who has access to them?

Your client file contains a record of all evaluations and treatment related paperwork. We keep client records for six years or until the client turns 22, whichever is longer. Healthcare privacy laws ensure that your records are confidential unless you approve their release. Our HIPAA policy outlines exceptions. If you want a copy of your records, provide us with a written request. You may be charged a small fee to offset the cost of providing copies.
